Herman Miller Aeron Chair Review (2026) — Derek's Honest Take
Our Verdict
The correct chair. Four years of research confirmed the obvious answer. If you sit 6+ hours daily, this chair pays for itself in prevented problems.
Buy Herman Miller Aeron →Why This Took Four Years
I bought the Herman Miller Aeron in January 2026. I first considered it in 2022. The four-year gap contains a HAG Capisco, an IKEA Markus, and a significant amount of research that concluded the same thing every six months: the Aeron is probably the right answer.
The reason for the delay: $1,100 to $1,500 for a chair is a significant purchase. The reason the delay was costly: back issues that accumulated over the period and resolved within three weeks of switching to the Aeron. The cost of the delay, measured in physical therapy visits and reduced productivity on high-discomfort days, likely exceeded the cost of the chair.
What Makes It Different
The Aeron's support system is called "PostureFit SL." It supports both the sacrum and the lumbar, rather than just the lumbar as most task chairs do. The sacral support is what I notice most — it maintains the natural curve of the lower spine rather than just pushing the lumbar forward.
The 8Z Pellicle mesh is breathable in a way that foam cushions are not. Summer WFH becomes significantly less uncomfortable in a chair that doesn't trap heat. The mesh also doesn't compress and lose shape over time — the Aeron's support characteristics remain consistent over years of use.
The Size Question
The Aeron comes in A (small), B (medium), and C (large). Most people use size B. If you are under 5'9" or under 150 lbs, size A may be appropriate. If you are over 6'2" or over 230 lbs, size C is likely better. Sizing incorrectly is a common mistake — the chair's ergonomic benefits depend on the seat pan being the correct depth for your leg length.
