Ergotron LX Single Monitor Arm Review (2026) — Derek's Honest Take
Our Verdict
Four years of daily use. Zero required adjustments since initial positioning. The highest-return setup purchase available.
Buy Ergotron LX on Amazon →Why This Is the First Recommendation
The Ergotron LX is the first thing I recommend to anyone setting up a WFH space, and the last thing I expect to need to replace. Four years of continuous daily use, zero structural failures, and the same position I set it to in February 2022.
The return on this purchase is difficult to overstate. At $149, it costs less than one visit to a physical therapist for the neck issues it prevents. It took 45 minutes to install. It solved my primary ergonomic complaint immediately and has not required attention since.
The Technical Case
The LX uses a spring-loaded arm mechanism that maintains position through tension rather than friction. The tension is adjustable via a bolt on the arm joint. I adjusted it once, at installation, to account for the weight of the LG 27-inch monitor. It has not required adjustment since.
The cable management channels run the full length of the arm and accommodate the USB-C cable cleanly. This is better than the Amazon Basics arm, which has cable management channels that are too narrow for most modern cables and too shallow to keep cables in place during adjustments.
The Comparison
Amazon Basics arm ($29): began drifting downward within three months. At six months, the monitor had returned approximately to desk stand height. The Ergotron LX at $149 represents a $120 premium for a product that does not fail over the use period.
Uplift arm ($179): functionally similar. The Uplift arm has a slightly cleaner cable management solution. The price difference of $30 is not meaningful. Either arm is a significant improvement over the budget category.
