Mid-Year Setup Check: What's Still Worth It

June audit. Here is the honest current state of things.

What is working: the Herman Miller Aeron continues to be correct. The Ergotron LX arm has not required adjustment. The FlexiSpot standing desk motor is still quiet. The MX Master mouse is on its second rechargeable battery in four years of use, which is an excellent track record. The cable management is still approximately 95% correct. The children's drawings are still there and will remain.

What needs addressing: the chair mat situation has now been unresolved for 20 months. I have the mat. It is in the closet. The carpet indent is visible. The installation requires moving the desk, which requires disconnecting cables, which requires re-cable-managing after replacement, which is why I haven't done it. This is not a compelling reason. It is the actual reason.

Current Recommendations

If you are setting up a WFH space this summer: Ergotron LX arm first. Herman Miller Aeron if budget allows; IKEA Markus if it doesn't. LG 27UN850 monitor. Elgato Key Light (See Derek's full review →) for video calls. Cable manage immediately after setup, not after eighteen months.

Kyle's setup is, at this point, functional. He has the LX arm, the LG monitor, the Markus chair. He is making progress. His last two calls have showed no ceiling. The progress is real.

The chair mat will be installed before the end of Q3. I am committing to this in writing so I cannot revise the timeline again.
