Best Office Chairs for WFH 2026

I sat in a $40 dining chair for four months while researching standing desks. My back has an opinion about that. These chairs have been evaluated on lumbar adjustability at L3-L4 level, seat depth range, and whether the armrests actually reach the height of a standard desk at 29 inches. The research phase took longer than the setup.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Herman Miller Aeron worth $1,400?
If you sit 7+ hours daily, yes. I calculate $0.55 per hour over 7 years of use. Cheaper chairs that cause back pain cost more in physio.
What does 4D armrest adjustment mean?
Height, width, depth, and pivot angle. You need all four to align with a keyboard tray. Most budget chairs offer height only.
How do I know if a chair fits my body?
Seat depth is the underrated spec. Your thighs should fully contact the seat with 2–3 finger widths of clearance behind the knee. Check if the depth adjusts.
